A - Here at Aerial Engineering Australia, we don’t like taking short cuts. There is nothing more embarrassing or humiliating in our industry than providing poor or inaccurate information. Hence, we pride ourselves on alway providing highly accurate and up to date information.
But seriously, why can’t I use just any drone service provider?
A - When it comes to Feature mapping and 3D modelling, most service provides just upload the captured data on site to the cloud. However, we don’t just use cloud based technology. By taking the extra time to model and map through desktop based software we are able to validate and make corrections to data to ensure you’re getting the most reliable and accurate information possible.
Why are models and maps created using desktop based software better?
A - Cloud based software such as Drone Deploy are great as they are quick and make for viewing your models and maps online easy. However, they do not have the ability to correct and verify the accuracy of the information captured. Aerial Engineering Australia utilises Pix4D’s Desktop Software which has been proven time and time again to be the most accurate way to produce 3D models and Maps. Pix4D then has a cloud based service that allows you to navigate and analyse the models and maps.
How accurate is Feature Mapping and 3D modelling?
A - There are 2 different type of Accuracy, Relative accuracy and Absolute Accuracy:
Relative accuracy is the accuracy in measurement of one point to another within the model space. Typically we receive a horizontal accuracy of around 1 to 3 centimetres and a vertical accuracy of between 2 to 4 centimetres.
Absolute accuracy is the accuracy of any point within the model to its actual position on the earths surface. Depending on our customer requirements, we can achieve an absolute accuracy of sub meter down to 2 to 3 centimetres.
How accurate is feature mapping?
A - As It is with 3D modelling, accuracy can be determined into 2 types, Relative and Absolute accuracy. Please see “How accurate is 3D modelling” for more detail.
How can I use 3D models on my website?
A - There are many different platforms out there that can host 3D models for use as plugins for your website. However, as we all know some platforms are better than others depending on their intended use.
Aerial Engineering can host your models for you and have them calibrated for your use. All you have to do is copy and paste the plugin link to your webpage.
Where can’t a drone be used?
A - There are limitations on the use of drone technology in Australia which is enforced by CASA (Civil Aviation Safety Authority). These limitation and rules are for good reason to help protect pilots, the general public and property from accidental or intentional dangerous drone use or unexpected drone failures. Some limits include:
- Drone cannot be within 30 Meters of any persons.
- Must not be flown over private property without prior permission to do so.
For more information on whether our drone services can be operated in your area, please feel free to contact us.
Why Feature mapping over traditional feature surveys?
A - The main distinct advantage of Feature mapping is the ability to have an image of the desired area that can be measured. This means clients are able to see the existing condition of the area mapped and them pick any points they desire to measure.
